Brett de Bary

Brett de Bary is a former Director of the Society for the Humanities and founding Director of the Visual Studies Program at Cornell. She is Professor Emerita in Comparative Literature and Asian Studies. Her research interests include modern Japanese fiction and film, the Japanese postmodern, comparative literary theory, translation theory and post-colonial theory, and gender and philosophy. She is currently doing research on Morisaki Kazue and completing a book on Tawada Yoko, both contemporary Japanese novelists. She has published work on Japanese literary critics and novelist including Karatani Kojin, Oe Kenzaburo, Nakano Shigeharu, and Miyamoto Yuriko, and Morisaki Kazue.
